W4KAZ was not able to operate 2007 WPX due to illness. Sore throat and sinus infection. Bleh…. NT4D ARRL DX Summary: Band QSOs Mults ------------------- 160: 26 22 80: 73 48 40: 114 83 20: 370 83 15: 330 73 10: 27 13 ------------------- Total: 940 293 Total Score = 826,260 I operated the 2007 ARRL DX at NT4D as Multi/Single with Jay and NT4Q, Jerry. Jay has a very nice station, and his KT34xa is sure a lot more fun on 20 meters than my own rather lame dipole. This was very much a learning experience for me, as operating a good station is much different than a low-power-cruddy-antenna set up. Summary: Band QSOs Mults ------------------- 160: 0 0 80: 17 14 40: 30 20 20: 31 22 15: 48 34 10: 0 0 ------------------- Total: 126 90 Total Score = 33,210 Several 30 minute forays into low sunspot DX contesting, for only about four or ive hours total time. Boy, that sure stunk–:o I’m sure not looking orward to trying this with the MyCrowFone for SSB. Still, I managed to work Hawaii, Alaska, New Zealand and South Africa, all pretty good for the peanut whistle. KH6LC was really loud in here a couple of times. ZM1A was solid copy in here too. Continue reading 2007 ARRL DX CW Summary: Total: QSOs = 100 State/Prov = 35 Countries = 0 Total Score = 8,050 Very quiet low QRN conditions here. Got my three hours in during the early evening hours, so all QSO’s are W or VE, no DX worked. Heard several DX, but they could not hear my tin whistle over the pile-ups. It will be interesting to see the logs turned in for this one. This seemed to be the best conditions I have heard on 160 for low noise. Summary: Band QSOs Mults ------------------- 160: 37 22 80: 253 41 40: 121 34 20: 31 17 15: 12 8 10: 1 1 ------------------- Total: 455 123 Total Score = 55,965 What follows are the gratuitous and extraneous ravings of an NAQP and contesting novitiate: This NAQP turned out to be another 80 meter contest for me, although it didn’t start out that way. I wasn’t making any headway on 20 meters, so I ditched the high bands for a try at a run on 40 meters. That worked well as long as it lasted, but I needed to ditch my run in favor of a couple of household errands and a turn at burning various meats over an open flame, accompanied by a small glass of fermented hops-laden adult beverage. (Sam Adams Black Lager- very good stuff.) Summary: Total: QSOs = 199 Sections = 42 Countries = 4 Total Score = 18,860 Only my second foray onto 160. It could be that I’m going to get hooked. No great rate, no cause for panic amoungst the Big Dawgs, but great fun. I really only got on to experiment on 160 and have a little fun while practicing my CW. I really enjoyed finding and working stations every 300 to 400 hz or so. S&P was a lot of fun that way. My ability to copy CW was not nearly so taxed as during Sweeps, but I still need a lot of work. I spent a lot of time ‘reading the mail’ on run stations on both nights, both to get an idea how well I could hear and as practice copying folks calling into the run. Summary: Band QSOs ------------ 160: 0 80: 206 40: 221 20: 41 15: 40 10: 0 ------------ Total: 508 Sections = 72 Total Score = 73,152 Woo-boy. Now I KNOW why CW remains popular. Can somebody please turn the sunspots back on? This contest was the second half of PVRC’s big 2006 push to take back the gavel for the club. There was a lot of good chatter prior to the contest to help motivate club members. Then there was also the infamous ‘MyCrowFone’ series of articles–Butt in Chair, Butt In Chair, Butt In Chair!….ahem. Summary: Band QSOs ------------ 160: 0 80: 131 40: 84 20: 52 15: 18 10: ------------ Total: 285 Sections = 71 Total Score = 40,470 This was the first half of the Big Push-the effort by PVRC to re-gain the Sweepstakes gavel from NCCC and any other challengers. There was a high level of excitement within the local chapter and the club at-large going into the contest season this year. I’m happy with my effort, as it is a nice improvement over the prior year’s CW effort. Conditions were not too bad for a low power S&P outing. I know its not as productive in QSO’s as running, but I’m not a good enough a CW op to jump into that fire yet. Besides, S&P without packet spots is a box of chocolates. Total: 110 35 70 Total Score = 30,450 I operated S&P for a total of about four hours spread out over Sunday afternoon. The highlight was working VK4WR and VK4CZ back to back on 15 meters. Murphy showed up and caused problems with either the external keyboard or the laptop’s din plug for the external keyboard–just as I’m trying to log 5Z1A. I swapped the keyboard out, and the problem did not come back. Ole Murph is probably waiting for sweepstakes…..(Note: This turned out to be an RFI problem with the ladder line from the 20 meter dipole.) Summary: Band CW Qs Ph Qs Mults --------------------------- 160: 1 1 1 80: 23 10 13 40: 74 22 28 20: 106 100 46 15: 28 18 18 10: 4 2 3 --------------------------- Total: 236 153 109 Total Score = 108,455 I got my 20 meter antenna deficiency somewhat corrected for this contest by finally getting the dipole up in a good tall tree at about 50 feet. Given the lack of towers sprouting in the backyard, this will probably be the best I get for a 20 meter antenna for the near future. |
