Scott operated the IARU contest with CW Skimmer up and running(actually he used six).<\/p>\n<p>Quoting W4PA, (emphasis added is mine):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;Does it work? <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Absolutely<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;It <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">looks just like<\/span><\/em><\/strong> packet spotting&#8221;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;The <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">callsign quality was good<\/span><\/em><\/strong>, I&#8217;d say <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">90% of the calls spotted were correct<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8220;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;The Skimmers also <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">alerted me to the 10 meter<\/span><\/em><\/strong> <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">opening<\/span><\/em><\/strong> in progress&#8221;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;On 20 meters early on I had 600 available calls to be worked at one point <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">spotted by<\/span><\/em><\/strong> the Skimmer&#8221;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;Does it look and feel like packet? <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Definitely<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8220;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If I didn&#8217;t know<\/span><\/em><\/strong> what it was,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em> I would have assumed I was looking at packet spots<\/em><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;Is it different than unassisted traditional single op? Sure.&#8221;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Is it an advantage<\/span><\/em><\/strong> over unassisted single op? <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">No question<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.&#8221;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8221;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>It may even be <\/strong><em><strong>better than packet<\/strong><\/em><strong>, <em>because it gives you ALL the callsigns for the whole band<\/em><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> <\/span>&#8220;&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Reading what I&#8217;ve written previously, you might come to the erroneous conclusion that I think skimmer is bad. I don&#8217;t. I just think the rush to allow it in the &#8216;unassisted&#8217; category is bad. The tool itself is inanimate. It is the ethics of thecategorizationof its use that I question.
