Approaching The Island

The local residents of the island turned out to the beach to great the auto ferry as we come in toward the dock on the rear of the island(Core Sound side).

The Landing

The park service cutter at the dock. A truck and a few passengers are waiting on the ferry for their return to the mainland. The dock is as spartan as the rest of the facility.

N4A HQ

This cabin became home to the N4A Krewe for the weekend. This shot was taken after we installed the AC units, a real luxury in the heat of midday.

Mental Health Break

The water was beautiful all weekend. The beach was covered with clam shells, as we were only 10 days after tropical depression Cristobal's visit to the Core Banks.

The Campgound Neighbors

The cabin we were in was the farthest south of thos available in the grounds. These are all to the northeast, and includes the trailers and campers parked in the park long term lot.

The Back 40

This is a shot from the rear of the cabin looking back towards Mainland USA and North Carolina over the Core Sound. The island is three miles off the mainland. The dark grey line of trees in the background is the shore. This shot overlooks a shallow bay formed by the island behind the cabin.

UFO? Military?

Well, we ARE close to Cherry Point, but I don't THINK its a super-secret miliray stealth craft. Looks more like a starling.

The SWR is what?

K4CZ was still not satisfied with the SWR on the Vertical. Tweaking away after the cocktail hour has begun....

Good Enough!

Finally. Done. Give that man a beer!

Run Station Antennas

We operated with two dipole at 90 degrees to each other. The 40m dipole favored the NE for Europe, the 80m dipole favored the US. Both were pressed into service on all bands.

Local Residents Visit

One of the local residents along with numerous buddies wanted to take over the operation, but we kept them away from the stations. Turns out they were all no code Tech's....

Good thing we were multi - this might qualify as "assistance".
